Summary

A recent study reconstructs the traditional Korean garden element, Chwibyeong, using historical texts and experimental planting to reveal its original form. The research analyzes composition methods from 18th-century literature, specifically Imwonkyungjeji, and compares them with existing reconstructions at Changdeokgung Palace Complex in Seoul. Findings indicate that current representations differ significantly from historical descriptions, suggesting a loss of traditional authenticity. The study provides new insights into Chwibyeong's unique features, including plant growth characteristics and structural design, which could restore its cultural significance as part of Korean garden aesthetics. This work offers practical guidelines for future conservation efforts, ensuring the preservation of this heritage element's original form and function.
