Summary

A groundbreaking framework leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) for 3D point cloud classification has been developed, significantly advancing the digital preservation and analysis of large-scale cultural heritage sites. This end-to-end approach integrates semantic enrichment with immersive Mixed Reality (MR) experiences, enabling unprecedented access to complex heritage environments. The study demonstrates its application across three distinct scenarios: the Temple of Neptune in Paestum, the Milan Cathedral, and Bologna’s porticoes, showcasing the potential for enhanced education, maintenance, and public engagement through Microsoft HoloLens 2 technology. The findings underscore AI's transformative role in cultural heritage conservation, bridging gaps between physical and virtual exploration while ensuring scalability and reliability.
