Summary
A detailed analysis of headdress types in Goguryeo tomb murals reveals distinct gender-based patterns and social hierarchies. The study found that men's headdresses, such as ragwan, chaek, geon, tugu, ssangsangtu meori, and mukeun jeongbal meori, exhibit clear class distinctions, reflecting a structured social stratification. In contrast, women's headdresses, including jangsikgogye, eonjeun meori, ssangsangtangtu meori, and samsangtu meori, show less formal development but demonstrate intricate detailing, suggesting a high level of aesthetic refinement. The research examined 39 tomb murals from Deokheung-ri, Goguryeo, to investigate hair shapes and their cultural significance, providing insights into the gender dynamics and social organization of ancient Korea.
