Summary

Buffer zone communities around Chitwan National Park, Nepal, exhibit strong familiarity with gharial (Gavialis gangeticus) conservation efforts and are willing to engage in further initiatives. A study involving 153 stakeholders—including park officials, local representatives, fishing communities, hoteliers, and students—revealed that targeted interventions, particularly for river-dependent groups and net sellers, could significantly enhance gharial conservation. Recommendations include community knowledge-sharing programs, school education, and livelihood support to foster active participation in habitat management and species protection.
