First evidence for locomotion in the Ediacara biota from the 565 Ma Mistaken Point Formation, Newfoundland: REPLY

Researchers at Mistaken Point, Newfoundland, have provided definitive evidence that the ancient trace fossil assemblage from the 565-million-year-old Mistaken Point Formation represents locomotion behavior in Ediacara biota. Contrary to earlier shallow marine interpretations, sedimentological studies consistently support a deep-water turbidite or contourite depositional environment, reinforcing the significance of these findings. This conclusion challenges prior assumptions and solidifies Mistaken Point as a key site for understanding early complex biological activity.
