Summary
Scientists have identified and described a new genus and species of nematode, Rhinodorylaimus kazirangus, from Kaziranga National Park in Assam, India. This discovery is notable for its distinct morphological features, including a truncate lip region, a massive odontostyle with a furcate base, and sexual dimorphism in tail shape—long filiform in females and short conoid in males. The new genus differs significantly from the similar Pachydorylaimus in several key aspects, such as the nature of its odontophore, pharyngeal gland nuclei arrangement, and the number of ventromedian supplements. The study employed detailed morphological analysis to characterize these unique traits, contributing valuable insights into nematode biodiversity within this UNESCO-listed site.
