Summary

A significant increase in vegetation productivity, measured as Gross Primary Productivity (GPP), has been observed in the Wuyi Mountain region from 2001 to 2018, driven primarily by vegetation greening. The study, using a hydroecological model (BEPS-TerrainLab V2.0), found that while climate change, particularly warming, had an insignificant negative impact on GPP trends, it dominated interannual variability. Vegetation greening contributed positively to the increasing trend in GPP, with a rate of 15.76 g C m−2 yr−2, counteracting the slight negative effect of climate change (−0.43 g C m−2 yr−2). The findings highlight the critical role of vegetation greening in shaping long-term productivity trends and the influence of temperature on interannual variations in this subtropical forest region.
