Summary
A geo-spatial classification method effectively identifies zones with high potential for aquifer recharge in the Palomas-Guadalupe Victoria aquifer, located in northern Mexico. The study, conducted using vector data and ASTER satellite images, categorized the Lower Basin of Casas Grandes River into three classes based on physical indicators. Class 3, covering an area of 192.94 km² along mountain foothills and river channels, shows the highest recharge potential, followed by Class 2 (838.83 km²) and Class 1 (747.97 km²). This methodology proves highly effective in pinpointing areas suitable for aquifer replenishment strategies, addressing critical water sustainability challenges in endorheic basins where significant water loss occurs through evapotranspiration.
