Summary

A new endemic tree species, Pleurothyrium amissum, has been discovered in the highland oak forests of Costa Rica's Talamanca Range. This species, belonging to the Lauraceae family, is distinguished from its close relative, P. pauciflorum, by notable differences in height, leaf size, inflorescence structure, flower color, and habitat preferences. The discovery was facilitated through detailed morphological analysis, including photographs, a distribution map, and a taxonomic key for Costa Rican Pleurothyrium species. This finding underscores the rich biodiversity of the Talamanca Montane Forest and contributes to our understanding of plant diversity in this ecologically significant region.
