Summary
A collaborative agent-based modeling approach successfully integrated the management goals of farmers and forest conservationists on the Causse du Larzac, a UNESCO-listed Mediterranean agro-pastoral landscape. The model, co-developed with researchers and technicians, allowed the Société Civile des Terres du Larzac (SCTL) to evaluate scenarios for combined livestock systems and wooded environments, while also addressing farmers' needs for improved farm functioning. This study demonstrates how companion modeling can bridge gaps between agricultural practices and ecological objectives in culturally significant landscapes.
