UNESCO World Heritage and Kosovo Towards a Tentative List for Kosovo

Kosovo's bid for UNESCO World Heritage recognition faces significant challenges, primarily due to its lack of systematic inventory and management structures for medieval monuments. Despite having a rich architectural heritage, Kosovo has not yet established the necessary frameworks to compile a tentative list for UNESCO consideration. This study highlights the urgent need for Kosovo to develop national expertise, engage international stakeholders like ICOMOS, and create a comprehensive inventory of its historical sites. The proposed preliminary tentative list serves as a starting point for discussion, balancing potential candidates against practical and cultural criteria.
