Summary
Researchers report the first confirmed presence and establishment of the Asiatic aphid, Tuberocephalus (Trichosiphoniella) tianmushanensis, in Italy. This species, previously thought to be eradicated in Europe after its initial detection in France in 1993, was found infesting leaf galls on ornamental cherry trees (Prunus subhirtella cv. pendula) at the University Botanical Garden of Padua. Further investigations revealed its presence in plant nurseries across the Veneto region, indicating a successful establishment beyond its initial detection site. The study highlights the species' resilience and potential for spread, posing new challenges for pest management in Italy.
