Summary
A significant prevalence of traumatic dental injuries (TDI) was found among 12-year-old schoolchildren in Brasília, Brazil, with rates notably higher in private schools (23.40%) compared to public schools (14.63%). The study, conducted as a cross-sectional, population-based survey involving 1,118 participants, identified increased overjet and inadequate lip coverage as key predisposing factors for TDIs. Contrary to expectations, sex, parental income, and educational level were not associated with the occurrence of dental trauma. This research highlights the importance of oral health interventions targeting children with specific physical characteristics, particularly those with prominent front teeth or insufficient lip coverage.
