Extra-Texts of Epiphanius the Wise

A critical reassessment of marginalia by Epiphanius the Wise in two 14th–15th century parchment codices (Tr. 22 and Tr. 34) from the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius reveals that disputed fragments, particularly on sheet 48 of the Stichetarion (1380), confirm its traditional dating despite earlier scholarly skepticism. The study also highlights previously overlooked or damaged records in Tr. 34, including significant but neglected marginal notes on sheets 151v and 153r. Using codicological analysis and paleographic examination, the research corrects transcription errors and provides new insights into Epiphanius’s scholarly annotations, contributing to a deeper understanding of medieval Russian manuscript culture.
