Summary

A study on Cave 87 of the Mogao Grottoes reveals that optimizing door opening times can significantly reduce microclimate fluctuations, thereby minimizing damage to cultural heritage. The research found distinct seasonal patterns in extreme temperature (T) and relative humidity (RH) differences between the cave's interior and exterior environments. From April to September, daily minimum T and RH differences peak between 8 am and 11 am, while maximum differences occur from 4 pm to 9 pm, suggesting morning door openings are preferable during these months. Conversely, in January-March and October-December, minimum differences appear between 4 pm and 7 pm, and maximum differences between 8 am and 11 am, indicating a need for adjusted schedules. This analysis provides actionable insights for preventive conservation strategies at the Mogao Grottoes.
