Summary
A study analyzing the temporal susceptibility of soil loss around Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park (PNCV) in Brazil's Cerrado bioma reveals a significant contrast between the park interior and its surroundings. From 2000 to 2017, average annual soil loss inside the park decreased by approximately 1 ton, while losses in the surrounding areas increased by about 0.3 tons. This analysis, conducted using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) via Geographic Information Systems (GIS), also showed a 3% increase in agricultural and urban land use in the surroundings, contrasting with a 4% decrease within the park's boundaries. The findings highlight the park's role as a buffer against environmental degradation in one of Brazil's most threatened biomes.
