Summary

A shift towards pastoralism characterized by caprine herding and resource management marked the final phase of Neolithic occupation at Çatalhöyük. This study, integrating 25 years of faunal research, reveals significant changes in subsistence practices, food processing, and social dynamics, alongside increased independence in provisioning and consumption. The findings also highlight complex links between animal husbandry, waste utilization, disease risks, and parasite transmission, offering new insights into the health and social practices of this ancient community. Previous post-Neolithic studies have primarily focused on contextual zooarchaeology to understand bone assemblage deposition.
