Summary

The study reveals that the lower member of the Rosso Ammonitico Veronese (R.A.V.), a distinctive red, nodular, pelagic limestone formation, spans from late Bajocian to middle Callovian in age. This formation is areally restricted to the 'Trento Ridge,' a structural high isolated during early Jurassic rifting, and is characterized by its condensed sequence of limestones rich in ammonite internal molds. The research describes this member from both biostratigraphical and sedimentological perspectives, highlighting its variable thickness, which reaches up to 8 meters in the southern part of the Trento Ridge, specifically in the Lessini Veronesi area. The study also notes a significant stratigraphic gap between the lower and upper members of the R.A.V., underlined by a mineralized hard ground that marks a sharp break in sedimentation from underlying shallow-water carbonates.
