Summary
A significant portion of the Parque Nacional de Brasília, covering 83% of its area, is at high to very high risk of forest fires, with 3% facing extreme risk. This finding stems from a study that developed a fire risk model using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), incorporating variables such as land use, terrain slope, slope orientation, and road networks. The methodology was validated against recorded fire hotspots in 2010 and successfully replicated in other areas within the Cerrado biome, providing a strategic framework for fire combat planning.
