Summary

A comprehensive excavation of 22 Goguryeo semi-underground stone chamber tombs in Gingoldong, Pyongyang, North Korea, revealed significant insights into the distribution and structure of these historical burial sites. Conducted by the Archaeological Research Institute of the North Korean Academy of Social Sciences between 2017 and 2019, the study focused on 10 tombs in District 2, located approximately 2 km southeast of Gingoldong. The findings highlighted two distinct regions based on tomb distribution: one 1.5 km east and another 2 km southeast of the site. This excavation provides valuable data for understanding the cultural and architectural practices of the Goguryeo kingdom during its peak, contributing to the preservation and study of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
