Summary
A study on the activity concentrations of natural radionuclides in building materials and foodstuffs from the Nurabad district, Samarkand region, Uzbekistan, reveals that potassium-40 (40K) is significantly more prevalent than radium-226 (226Ra) or thorium-232 (232Th) across all samples. The research also highlights the negligible presence of cesium-137 (137Cs), attributed to its short half-life, which renders it undetectable over time. Using gamma spectrometry with a germanium-lithium detector, scientists analyzed the radiation spectra of samples with varying densities, ranging from 140 to 1810 g/l. The findings provide critical insights into the natural radionuclide distribution in environmental materials, contributing to broader understanding of radiological safety and cultural heritage preservation.
